Prospect Lake Elementary is located in a semi-rural setting with a mix of socio-economic backgrounds and has an enrollment of 148 students in Kindergarten to Grade 5. The school
has very strong parent involvement in support of student learning through the Parent Advisory Council and the School Planning Council. The student body demonstrates a
variety of intellectual, social, emotional and physical abilities and interests. The diverse nature of students enrolled at Prospect Lake Elementary has enhanced the dynamic nature
of this small elementary school. To help address this diversity Prospect Lake Elementary has embarked on a plan we hope will allow our students to become more engaged and self
directed in their learning. Our plan is to involve them in activities that are generally outdoors and connected to the environment. To this end we are creating/building outdoor
learning "spaces" on our school grounds. In addition to children developing a strong connection to their learning and their school we hope they will develop a deeper
understanding of the natural environment in which they live, thus allowing them to make more informed decisions in their adult lives. To enhance the development of curricula which
will take full advantage of these learning spaces, our staff has committed to increasing our understanding and use of inquiry and project based learning.
