Parking Reminders
Last week we reported that vehicles were being ticketed for
parking in the no parking zones along Prospect Lake Road. We incorrectly stated
that it was Saanich Police doing the enforcement when it was Saanich By-Law
Control officers.
Parking continues to be a challenge, especially during peak
drop-off and pick-up times. There is a plan in place by the District of Saanich
to improve walkability along Prospect Lake Road, to create a 34-spot parking
lot, plus other additional parking spots near the school. However, construction will not begin until
2022. https://www.saanich.ca/EN/main/local-government/departments/engineering-department/current-projects.htm
To ensure the safety of all children, and to assist with the
flow of traffic, we would like to remind parents, guardians, and anyone else
who will be dropping off and/or picking up, the following:
1. Playground supervision is available from 8:20-8:40 am and
from 2:48-3:00 pm. This can help you avoid the peak times when parking is less
available.
2. The drop-off lane is available for afternoon pick-up! Arrange
for your child go to the covered area at dismissal. Arrive between 2:50-3:00pm and a staff member
will assist in locating your child and bringing them to your vehicle when you
arrive. If you’re child isn’t there yet,
you may be asked to do a loop around. Please
ensure your child’s teacher knows this plan so they can send your child there.
3. Looking for an alternative parking area? Whitehead Park (on Prospect Lake Road) and
the Prospect Lake Community Hall both have parking available. It is only a
short walk to the school.
4. The roundabout is for staff parking only and not a
drop-off or pick-up location, or for general access during the peak hours of
8:20-8:45 am and from 2:30-3:00 pm, except to access handicap parking. If you
are dropping off or picking up during these times, please use the designated
lane.
5. Empty staff parking spaces in the main parking lot are
available after 2:30 pm. Please be aware
that you might not be able to vacate your space until after the buses leave.
6. Please do not turn into the parking lot closest to the
Adam Kerr field or park along the field fence line adjacent to the parking lot.
These are safety hazards for both pedestrians and vehicles and must be kept
clear for the buses to maneuver and for emergency vehicles.
Volunteers Needed
We need your help! The PAC is looking for volunteers for the following:
Class Representatives
Each classroom (division)
requires a parent volunteer. The
volunteer helps assist the teacher as needed.
They are also responsible for helping organize and facilitate a Christmas
and Year End thank you gift from the class.
The following divisions still require a volunteer:
Div. 3: Close
Div. 4: Russell
Div. 6: Rochon
Div. 7: Lail and Bossence
Div. 8: Ashcroft
Div. 9: Riddell
Div. 11: Hrynyk-Foreman
Div. 13: Gladwin
Grade 5 Class Representative
The Grade 5 Class Representative is a parent, or parents, with a child in the current graduating class. They are responsible for organizing grad clothing, a grad event, liaising with the school on fundraising and managing the selling of the Country Grocer gift cards, and the yearbook. This year we have Michelle overseeing the yearbook, yet we are still in need of a parent or parents to coordinate the rest of activities.
Clothing Fundraiser Coordinator
We are looking for a parent to help coordinate the sales, ordering and distribution of the Prospect Lake Elementary School clothing.
BC School Fruit & Vegetable Nutritional Program
Our coordinator is looking for
two more volunteers to help prepare and distribute the produce each month. All volunteers will be contacted by the
program coordinator as needed.
Thank You!!
We would like to send out a big thank you to Stephanie Bossler and Vanessa Kriberg for preparing and distributing the first delicious snack, fresh BC apples, courtesy of the BC Fruit & Vegetable Program.
