PAC MEETING

ALL parents and guardians are invited to join us on Tuesday October 17, 2023, for our Parent Advisory Committee meeting.  The October meeting is one of our most important meetings of the school year as we discuss our budget for the year as well as the staff’s wish list. 

The meeting is held at the school in the Learning Commons (aka. the library) or from the comfort of your home via Microsoft Teams.  School doors open at 6:45pm with tea and treats available.  There will be a door prize draw at the end of the night courtesy of Amanda’s Cookie Creations.  The meeting will start at 7:00pm. 

When joining us at school, please enter through the main front doors, sign in at Mrs. Blackwell’s desk and proceed directly to the Learning Commons.  Masking is optional and choices are respected.

HALLOWEEN HOWL

Thank you to Kari Moore, Tracy Michaels, Rachel Holme, Stephanie Phipps, Paula Hesje, and Ian Piears for volunteering to coordinate our school dance!

We would also like to thank all the parents and family members that have signed up so far to help volunteer at the dance.  We still in need of 10 volunteers to help with the following jobs:

  • Food Set Up, 4:00-5:00pm x 2 volunteers.
  • Bake Sale, 5:00-6:00pm x 1 volunteer.
  • Ticket Sales, 6:00-7:00pm x 1 volunteer
  • Clean Up, 8:00-9:00pm x 6 volunteers.

BOTTLE DRIVE

Save your empties!  Our first bottle drive of the school year is on Sunday October 22.  Please check your recycling, ask your friends, neighbours, and co-workers for donations – every bottle counts!  A complete list of acceptable returnable empties can be found HERE.  Last year we made $3100 with our bottle drives.  All funds raised go towards new opportunities for our children!

11 volunteers are needed to run the bottle drive.  Students accompanied by adults are welcome and encouraged to come and volunteer as well.  The following volunteer times are available:

  • Set-Up & Sort, 9:30-11:30am x 1 volunteer.
  • Sort, 10:00am-12:00pm x 2 volunteers.
  • Sort, 11:00am-1:00pm x 2 volunteers.
  • Sort, 12:00-2:00pm x 3 volunteers.
  • Sort & Clean-Up, 1:00-2:30pm x 3 volunteers.

PAC CLASS REPRESENTATIVES

Thank you to those parents that have already signed up to be a class representative.  There are still a few classes in need of a rep…

What is a PAC class representative?  What are their responsibilities?

A PAC class representative is:

  • a parent or guardian of your child’s classroom,
  • someone that has an interest in supporting their child’s teacher and assisting if needed,
  • someone that is comfortable emailing the other parents in your child’s classroom to organize a group winter and year-end gift (the PAC Executive will send out a template to personalize), as well as sharing any relevant or time sensitive information, and,
  • someone available to attend monthly PAC meetings in person or virtually (third Tuesday of each month).

SD63 TRANSPORTATION REVIEW OPEN HOUSE

Saanich Schools (SD63) is seeking your feedback on proposed amendments to Policy 21 – Bus & Van Transportation.

You are invited to attend one of the following open house meetings to learn more about the transportation policy review and the proposed amendments:

  • Central Zone – Wednesday October 18,7:00-8:30pm, Bayside Middle School, Multi-Purpose Room, 1101 Newton Place
  • Virtual Meeting – Monday October 23, 7:00-8:30pm, Microsoft Teams.  Please see the Upcoming Events section of the SD63 Website

There will be an opportunity to provide feedback at each meeting as well as through a follow-up survey provided to meeting participants.

LOST AND FOUND

Is your child missing a shoe?  Sweatshirts or jackets missing?  Water bottles or other lunch containers didn’t make it home, perhaps it’s time to ask your child to check the lost and found as it is FULL!!  The lost and found can be found by the entrance to the gym.  It is available daily for parents to check it over as well. 

For those attending the October PAC Meeting or their child’s Parent Teacher Conference, the opportunity will be available for you to browse the lost and found.

PAC YEAR-ROUND FUNDRAISING

Please note that the following year-round fundraisers bring in money that goes back to the PAC.  The funds raised go towards supporting our children by enhancing their experiences at Prospect Lake Elementary School.

GRADE 5 YEAR-ROUND FUNDRAISER

Country Grocer

Please save your receipts from Country Grocer and bring them back to the school.

  • There is a metal bucket on top of the wooden PAC mailbox beside Mrs. Blackwell’s desk that you / your child can place them into.
  • Country Grocer provides a percentage back via gift cards from all receipts we return.  
  • The money raised from the sale of the gift cards helps support the current year's Grade 5 class with their year-end activities.
