BOTTLE DRIVE & TREE CHIPPING – THANK YOU!!

We would like to send out a big thank you to our PLES community.  With your contributions, we made $1,024 from the bottle drive and $75 from tree chipping donations. 

We would also like to extend an even bigger thank you to the crew from Ascent Yard Care for volunteering their time and services for the tree chipping.

And last, but certainly not least, one more big thank you to Angela Formosa-Gray, Jacquie Davis, Trevor Davis, Desiree Davies, Pallavi Murthy, Rebecca Wild, Steve Grady, Shelly McIntyre, Ioana Smirnov, Kari Moore, Cooper Stacey, Dave Vanvandwijki, Erin Gray, Jude Coates, Cobus De Klerk, Dave Moore, and Kelly De Klerk for volunteering your time and braving the weather to sort all of the donated bottles.  And to Dave Giuliani for spearheading the tree chipping and Elan Fritz for helping him out.  Way to go Panther Parents!

PAC 101 – A WORKSHOP FOR PARENTS

FREE EVENT FOR CHILDREN IN KINSHIP CARE

On Saturday January 14, from 1:30pm – 3:00pm, the Parent Support Services Society of BC is hosting a free event for children ages 6 to 12 years old who are being raised in kinship care.  The kindship caregivers are also invited to join us for coffee or tea during the event.

FAMILY SMART WORKSHOPS

1. Help For the Hard Times Workshops: These run every month for parents and caregivers whose children have been at the ER or have had a hospital stay for mental health or substance use issues.

Details for the 1-hour workshops:

  • Session 1: How to support a safety plan at home (Part 1)
  • Session 2: How to support a safety plan at home (Part 2) 
  • Session 3: How to take care of yourself and your family after a crisis. 
  • Session 4: How to find the resources you need

2. Family Smart's Topic in our January Education and Parent Connection Groups will be Self Harm: There is Always Help, There is Always Hope

Hear Kim Leifso a clinical counsellor, and Ciara, a young person with lived experience; talk about what they know and have experienced with self-harm. Come together with other families to watch this 30-minute video presentation followed by a facilitated discussion by a Family Smart Parent Peer Support Worker.

"We understand that this topic can be hard, and you are welcome to attend in a way that feels comfortable to you. You are welcome to attend with your camera on or off, and you are welcome to join anonymously or by changing your name".

3. The Boys and Girls Club (BGC) is offering a series of online programs helping parents of teens, pre-teens, and children gain confidence, discover practical tips and resources, and find support from other parents.  These programs are ongoing:

  • Parents Together: Tuesdays. For Parents with Kids ages 13-25, 12:00-1:30pm or 6:30-8:00pm
  • Parents in the Know: Wednesdays. For Parents with Kids ages 13-18, 6:30-8:00pm, 10-12 weeks
  • Parenting Without Power Struggles: Thursdays. For Parents with Kids ages 9-12, 6:30-8:00pm, 10-12 week

We invite members to put forward nominations for the open positions on the Board of Directors which will be accepted via email until February 28, 2023, per our Bylaws and voted on during the 2023 Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Nominations are open to regular members in good standing per Section 5.5 of our Bylaws. Candidates for a position on the Board of Directors must be nominated by a current member PAC or DPAC. Completed nomination forms must be received by email by midnight February 28, 2023.
