VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

1. Winter Concert – Gym Decorating

We are looking for 2 more volunteers to help decorate the gym in preparation for the winter concert.  The volunteers will help decorate the gym walls with the completed mittens our PLES families have decorated.  If you are able to help on Wednesday December 14 between 9:00-11:00am, please sign up HERE.

2. Bottle Drive

Save your empties!  We are having a bottle drive on Sunday Ja3. Tnuary 8 from 10am-2pm at the school.  If you’re available to help, please sign HERE.

3. Tree Chipping

We are having a tree chipping by donation on Sunday January 8 from 10am-2pm at the school to coincide with the bottle drive.  We are looking for a coordinator / liaison including a few volunteers.  This is a simple task.  The company has already been booked, the date and time has been set.  All we require is somebody to be the contact going forward and seeing if there is a need or potential to gather some parents with trucks to do tree pick ups.  If this feels like a good fit for you, or you are interested in volunteering, please sign up HERE.

PLES VOLUNTEERS – CRIMINAL RECORD CHECKS

SD63 volunteers who volunteer directly with students are required to complete a Criminal Record Check every three years.

Please apply online to the Ministry of Justice at justice.gov.bc.ca/criminalrecordcheck and use Access Code UV53DWHBYX. Your Criminal Record Check will be sent to the School Board Office for review.  Alternatively, you can share the results of a previous CRC completed through the Ministry of Justice within the past three years.

PLEASE NOTE: The Criminal Records Review Program is implementing a new process for Electronic Identity Verification using the BC Services Card.  If you are using the BC Services Card to access the online service for the first time you will be directed to activate your card by video or alternatively you can do this in person through Service BC.  Once you receive notification from BC Services that the verification process is complete, you will need to return to the eCRC system to complete your request for Criminal Record Check with the Saanich School District.  Please see the eCRC User Guide and Frequently Asked Questions for more information.

Applicants who do not have a BC Services Card can visit their catchment school office to complete a 'Volunteer Consent to a Criminal Record Check' Form.

WINTER CENTERPIECE CARE & DISPOSAL INSTRUCTIONS

Today your child will have brought home their one-of-a-kind centerpiece.  These beautiful creations can last you quite a while with a little care.  On a daily basis add water your container – pro tip, bring to the sink and fill up directly from the facet.   A few quick tips for disposal of your centerpiece: all of the flowers and greenery can be composted.  The green oasis, the water sponge, and the tape need to be put in the garbage.  The green plastic container can be washed and dried, then returned to the school during the first week of January for recycling – we can reuse them next year.

FAMILY SMART WORKSHOPS

December's ‘In the Know’ Parent Meeting is on ADHD. 'In the Know’ provides expert speakers on topics important to young people, families and/or those working to support the mental health of children and youth.

Join us in watching a video by Dr. Duncan, who will dispel the many myths surrounding ADHD by presenting up to date scientific facts about cause, prevalence, diagnosis and treatment. He will explain how and why the ADHD brain works the way it does. Following the video we will host a parent discussion.
