May 15, 2022
Hello families,
It has been an active start to the month of May. Activities and events are in full swing at Prospect Lake Elementary! Here are some of the highlights and other school news.
Bowling and Mini golf
On May 2/4 the staff and students were very excited and grateful for the opportunity to participate in Bowling, Mini-Golf and to be treated to pizza at Langford Lanes. This fun event was made possible from a generous donation from a community member. Some students connected this generous offer to our lessons of random acts of kindness and paying it forward.
Cross Country
On May 4, Our Grade 3,4,5 Cross country team wrapped up their final meet at Centennial Park. Congratulations to our participants on representing Prospect Lake and setting personal goals in their fitness and taking the opportunity to participate in the district meets. We are all happy for the return of such events after two years. Thank you to our staff for coaching and parents for their volunteering to marshal the course.
Our first annual Grade 1 and 2 Primary mini-meet is coming up on May 17 12:30-1:00. Come cheer on these runners at the Adam Kerr field as they run a course on the school grounds.
Bike Safety
Bike and Road Safety workshops held on May 9/10 for students in grade 4/5 with Capital City Bikes was a huge success! Great lessons and hands on practice with road safety and bike handling.
Fire Safety
Some primary classes had a visit from the Saanich Fire Department last week to learn about Fire Safety in their "Learn not to Burn" program.
Hot Lunch/ PAC Meeting
We want to thank the PAC for their continuous support of the Hot Lunch days. It’s a welcome break for parents from making lunches and the students love it too. The next and final PAC meeting of the year is May 24 7:00 pm, come out or join on line for this meeting and consider volunteering to serve on the PAC executive for 2022/23 school year.
Orientations
Ready Set Learn was held last week for preschool children ages three to five years to encourage activities for learning readiness. Thank you to our intermediate tour guides Nico, Karis, Lizzy, and Aubrey.
