School News  

 

The PAC Exec would like to thank everyone who came to last week's PAC meeting. We had a great turn out. For those of you who couldn’t make it, meeting minutes will be posted on the PAC website shortly.

 

Spring Musical: A number of props are still needed for the spring musical. Please visit our online list here: http://flask.io/j5vR9 . Remember to only click on the items that you are 100% sure you can bring in as we have no way of following up, or reminding you. Also, be sure to click on the Save List button after making your selection. The drop off box is at the Multipurpose room. Make sure you label your item if you need it back after the show.

 

We will be compiling donations for baskets to be raffled during the musical. More details to come.

 

Neon Spring Blast: Thank you to those of you who have already volunteered to be coordinators of specific activities during this important fundraiser. We still have several coordinator spots that need to be filled. Get involved! We especially need help with the concession and silent auction. Email the PAC at prospectlakepac@sd63.bc.ca to volunteer.

 

2016/17 School Year Calendar: The Board of Education has posted a draft calendar for the 2016/17 school year and is asking for feedback prior to making a final decision on March 9, 2016.  Please review the proposed calendar on the District website here https://www.sd63.bc.ca/news/2016-01/feedback-requested-20162017-school-calendar and if you have suggestions or questions contact the office of the Superintendent of Schools at superintendent@sd63.bc.ca

 

Community News  

 

The 2016 BCCPAC Spring Conference and AGM will be held Friday April 29 to Sunday May 1, 2016 at the Coast Capri in Kelowna. George Abbott will be a featured speaker- focusing on the vital role of parents within the school system. Sex, Drugs & Social Media event will take place Wednesday,. Feb 10 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Ecole John Stubbs Memorial School in Colwood. If you have teen aged children (or soon will) panelists will talk openly about the BIG issues facing today's youth including: pornography, consent, sexuality, drugs, social media and decision making. Royal Oak Middle School will hold an open house on Wednesday, Feb 3 2016 from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM.

 

Grade 5 Memory Book: For those of you who haven’t already, please sign and return your consent form for the Memory Book and return back to the school.

 

 

Recipes & Tips  

 

MINESTRONE SOUP

 

1 cup dry navy beans

 

¼ cup vegetable oil

 

1 onion, sliced

 

1 cup cabbage, shredded

 

1 large can tomatoes

 

8 cup water

 

1 cup diced celery

 

1 clove garlic, minced

 

1 Tbsp. parsley, basil, oregano

 

1 tsp. pepper

 

Bring beans to boil in water for approximately 2 mins. Let stand covered for about an hour. Drain and

 

rinse beans. In a large pot, heat oil and sauté vegetables lightly. Add beans, fresh water, spices, and

 

tomatoes. Simmer for about 3 hours. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese when serving.
